My name is Megan. And
I love economics. Seriously.
I wanted to go through the whole rigmarole of getting a PhD so I could research it and teach it to unsuspecting undergraduates. Unfortunately, I figured out pretty quickly that Ph.D-land (at least in my experience) consisted of taking a subject I loved, sucking out all fun and creativity, and beating it to a bleeding, lifeless pulp. Needless to say, I didn't last very long.

But I did gain a deep understanding of economics (and a Master's degree) from the
years that I spent in graduate school, and when I taught it, I found out just
how much it is misunderstood and loathed by students everywhere. It’s one of those dry subjects, generally
taught by crabby professors saddled with too many other responsibilities,
lecturing from crusty, yellowed notes that were probably handwritten in the
1960s. No wonder most college students
only sign up for econ unless it’s required.
My aim is to illustrate some of the fundamental concepts of economics
in a creative way. My sketches are meant
to be lighthearted, informative, and appallingly low-tech. I draw them with a Sharpie, color them with
markers or pencils if I feel so inclined, and scan them to my computer. Occasionally I'll get dangerous and use MS Paint or Photoshop.
If you are a teacher or student and want to use my images,
by all means, go ahead. That’s exactly
the reason I made them. I’d love to hear
your comments about how the presentation went or ideas for what I can do
differently in the future. If you have a
specific subject or concept you’d like illustrated, shoot me an email at stickfigureecon@gmail.com to get
the ball rolling.

Other (random) stuff:
My
favorite band of all time is Led Zeppelin.
I have a little house and a slobbery dog and a (mostly) doting husband,
and I’m still waiting to find out what it feels like to be a grownup. A part of me hopes I never do.
You are so creative and talented and I admire your abilities so much. It is an incredible combination of left and right brain thinking! I would love to use your images on blogs from time to time but always ask permission. Please let me know if okay and how you wish the credit to be referenced! Thanks, Linda
